What Started It All

Myself and Lauretta go way back. We were first introduced as friends through a mutual friend in high school, Genevieve. Although we were not in the same school, weekends were spent catching the local bus to town, where we would attempt to pull off surfing or go bargain shopping at the markets. On week days, long before the days of Twitter and Blackberry Messaging, we would write friendship letters and Gen was the post lady! These letters generally started on Mondays reminiscing about how amazing our weekend was. Come Wednesday they would involve extensive plans for the up and coming weekend ahead. Nine years later, using BBM, our messages are generally the same topic as in high school.

Back then and even to this day, Lauretta and I differ in so many ways, but you wouldn't find a better friendship. Lauretta was and is the brains of any operation. Always dedicated to her work and studies. She was Head Girl of Durban Academy High School, class of 2006. Where as I, did not have any intention of even attempting to apply as a prefect. Lauretta always has a plan. One word to describe her would be "organized". And me, Angelique, was (and is) a dreamer. Wanting to constantly travel and experience life in every way possible.

Towards the end of our final year in Matric, we lost our dear friend Gen. It was a difficult thing for both of us in different ways. Before we even knew it, school was over. I spent a year in Dubai after that and another year in Johannesburg. During this time, we drifted apart, but for no bitter reasons at all. Time just slipped through our fingers. I heard through the grape vine that my old friend was now a married woman. (This still feels strange to say out loud, because I feel like we are still those silly girls from school days). Coincidently, I had moved back to Durban and my boyfriend and her husband happened to play poker together. One random evening I decided to go with, and just when I was about to start moaning about how bored I was, in walked Lauretta and AJ. I couldn't believe that I was seeing her again, but nothing had changed between us.

The boys eventually had to pull us out of our deep conversation because it was almost one the morning. We had almost three years to catch up on.

And three years later I cannot be more grateful that she is in my life again.

Over the past three years, we now work at the same offices up in Kloof and car pool together. I have been playing around in the photography thing, and have always had a keen interest for event planning but never had a reason to pursue it. Lauretta has a sister-in-law who was almost ready to pop with her first pregnancy and decided to plan a Baby Shower.

We spent week’s together hand making everything, from the invitation to the welcome drinks and all the mini snacks that were provided. We had so much fun and so many giggles, that we came to the realization that together we make the perfect team. And so before you I present...

Here are some snaps of the Baby Shower we pulled off, and if I do say so myself, it's pretty dam impressive.
